Homecoming and Updates

Dear Garden City School Community,

There is always something special about Homecoming week in Garden City, and you can already feel the excitement throughout our schools. Our buildings have been busy with Spirit Week activities as students and staff celebrate the pride and traditions that make our school community so special.

Thank you to our parent volunteers, the PTA and SEPTA for all they continue to do to support our students, staff and schools. So much of what makes these weeks memorable for our students is possible because of the time, energy and enthusiasm of our families.

Our Back-to-School Nights have also been underway, providing another opportunity to welcome families into our schools and strengthen the connection between home and school. I appreciate the many parents who have taken the time to attend, meet our teachers and learn more about the year ahead.

This week, we also held our first parent workshop focused on our new K-5 primary literacy resource. Thank you to the families who joined us to learn more about the work taking place in our classrooms and how you can support literacy at home. For those who were unable to attend, parent resources and a recording of the session are available on our Literacy Family Resources website.

We also continue to make adjustments to our transportation routes. With Ms. Greene back supporting our Transportation Department and working alongside our team, we have made gains and continue to identify ways to improve routes, reduce delays and provide greater consistency for our families. I appreciate your continued patience as we work through these adjustments.

As a reminder, this week’s Board of Education meeting has been moved to Tuesday, September 22 at 7:30 p.m.

And, of course, this Saturday, September 19, we will come together for one of our favorite Garden City traditions—Homecoming Day. Our parade will begin at 1:00 p.m., and I hope to see many of you along the parade route as our students, staff, families and community come together to celebrate.

This year, we are especially pleased to recognize two individuals who have given so much to Garden City as our Grand Marshals: retired Homestead Principal Dr. Suzanne Viscovich and retired Police Commissioner Kenneth Jackson. Both have had a lasting impact on our community and have always kept our schools and our students at the center of their work. It will be wonderful to welcome them back and recognize their many years of service to Garden City.

I hope you and your family will join us on Saturday. Homecoming is a wonderful reminder of the pride, traditions and connections that make Garden City such a special community.
